  • Children’s R.E.     RE classes are open to all children and are held on the first Sunday of the month.. Childcare is available for younger children downstairs. Children are reminded to come into the Church service upstairs through Joys & Concerns and then go downstairs for RE.

Do you ever wonder what our children do after we’ve sung them downstairs? Well here’s your chance to find out. And many thanks go to Clare Jennings for her work with these important members of our congregation.

The Kidz Klub – Religious Education

Following our Christmas activities the Kidz Klub are busy having a great time downstairs in 2010. Some topics covered so far include:

    - Basic history of Unitarian Universalism
    - Introduction to the 7 Unitarian Universalist principles: what are they and how can we apply them to our everyday lives? The highlight of this topic was creating a paper-people collage for the principle ‘everyone is important’ (this can be seen in the RE room downstairs!).
    - The Unitarian Universalist Chalice: where does it come from and what does it symbolise?
    - Christianity – the Fundamentals: who’s who, beliefs, main anniversaries, and the cross as a symbol.
    - Daffodil Principle: On the 14th March Jane Bramadat introduced the children to the Daffodil Principle story. The children expanded on this idea downstairs. We focused on the moral of the story and created our own daffodils: how can we plant metaphorical ‘bulbs’?

For a bit of fun, the 2 weeks leading up to Easter were dedicated to preparing creative gifts to give as an appreciative gesture for any chocolate they receive.

In the upcoming few weeks the children will be discussing caring for the planet (in a small sense – i.e. just what they can do), participating in a little UU singing (a couple of the more basic songs from our Service book) and beginning preparation for Matariki (Maori new year). We are also looking to introduce a (fire-free!) children’s chalice for joys and concerns downstairs this month.

    Waitakere Train Trip
Unitarians completely took over the Waitakere train on Sunday 16th May and thoroughly enjoyed the trip (and they had almost the last of the good weather!). Our social activities are going from strength to strength – with many thanks to Willem and Donna

Back on the summit track we got to the top in time for lunch.

Children's Tramp Up to the Top of Rangitoto Island Nov '09

On Saturday, 14th November 2009, the children’s trip to Rangitoto started off with everyone meeting at Pier 2 on the Auckland Ferry Terminal. We totalled 15 in all, 5 children and 10 adults. The different perspective of seeing home suburbs from the island, the wonderful views, being in the bush, being out together, and of course the caves made it a fantastic day, in a great environment with great company. The explorers: Donna, Nick, Terry, Chris, Rachel, Bennett, Keg, Mary, Brooks, Sadie, John, Lisa, Paul, Gary and Brenda.

    Matariki!
